Curriculum
The ISU Child Care Center Team Teachers plan curriculum based on the Bank Street Curriculum and the Project Approach.
The teachers plan daily activities with four things in mind:
- developmental stages, needs, and abilities of all young children
- needs of the age group served and their abilities
- needs of the specific, individual child
- the personal experiences and history each child brings to the classroom learning experience.
Children engage in playful interactions with peers, well-educated teachers, student assistants and practicum students. Experiences in large/small group activities occur daily. Such activities include: storytelling, music, exploring the language arts, creative arts and drama, science, math, and cooking.
We provide activities to foster emotional, social, intellectual and physical growth. We stress good self esteem, clear and positive communication, problem solving, decision making, creativity, independence and the ability to work with others.
Current Project
In Spring 2017, the children participated in "The Home Project". This project came about after many discussions about home remodels taking place and children who had moved to new homes or apartments. To learn more about how projects are used with young children see The Project Approach.
